By the way, I want to share some experience and suggestion for taking taxi in Cairo.
1. When you arrive in Cairo airport (I suppose terminal 2) and whenever you
exit the Customs, there are plenty of guys asking you to take their taxis, try
their hotels...etc. If you have already designed your accomdation arrangement,
don't need to pay attention to them.
2. To take taxi in the airport when you arrive Cairo (in case not arrive at
midnight), I suggest you to walk to the departure hall (you can spot it in the
arrival hall, just tens of meter apart) to take the taxis there because these
taxis are coming from the city downtown and they are more reliable. Bargain
down the price to around 20~30Egyptian pounds. The taxi drivers waiting at the
arrival hall (or other tourist points) are ABSOLUTELY prepared to "kill" your
pocket!!!
3. When taking taxi in Cairo and Alxandria, you don't need to ask "how much"
before getting onto the car. As long as you know the proper price (you can ask
it from the hotel staff or making reference to the Lonely planet, but I think
the price in Lonely planet is obselete already), just give the money to the
driver and get off when you arrive. Sometimes he may ask you to pay more, if
you like, you can pay 1 or 2 pounds more and just get off. Don't need to pay
attention to him as long as you know you pay enough! Also, you can choose to
sit in the rear seat if you are single as I think it is safer.

1. I think it is ok in big citis such as Cairo and Alexandria as long as you dress properly and wear a headdress when visiting mosques.
2. I have just tried Hamis travel, (USD$180 for each person to Aswan, Luxor and Abu simbel, 2 night 2stars hotel and 2 nights 3stars hotel).

5. Both USD and EGP is ok. Exchange is very convenient in the cite downtown. But it is better for you to exchange enough EGP when you arrive Cairo airport as you can use it to take taxi.

Hi Joyce,
I have just come back from my 20-day trip in Egypt. You don't need to worry about the local tours as there are many tour agencies in Egypt, especially around the city downtown. However, you should always bargain down the price and beware of some bad agencies. Personally, I have tried the tour organized by Hamis Travel (recommend by Loney Planet) to go to Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel for 5 days, and the price is resonable( USD$180 for two persons). Its office is around Ramses train station, and the staff is vvvvery friendly and good at English.
I have collected some contacts of tour agencies and guides those I think are reliable. If you are interested in it, I can email to you.
As for the books, as far as I know, Lonely Planet is always the first choice for individual travellers as it is most detailed and accurate! Another one is a translated version of a Japanese guide book, but it is in Simplied Chinese version. I found it in Shen Zhen book city, but I think you can go to "Xin Hua" bookstore in Causeway Bay to search for it.
Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel can take 5-6 days. If you take minibus instead of the felluca trip from Aswan to Luxor, it may take 5 days only.

1)我想問的是..你說LOCAL TOUR是你在旅館報名的,那麼在出發前你在那裏得知TOUR的資料?
2)我們只有9天的假期,有那些地方是一定要去的呢??要是自由行的話,時間足夠嗎?要是我們只往CAIRO, LUXOR 和ASWAN,時間應怎樣分配呢?

要有心理準備埃及人頗煩，不要動氣，但埃及絕對值得去。
